My favorite book

Demian: the good and the evil

I confess that in much of my life, I has not been a great reader. In school I always readed the minimum, since in particular I was not struck by literature. Instead of reading novels, prefer to read history and science, for example. In fact, in the four years of the university, that I has been following this same line. For the most part, since I entered university only readed books on sociology and philosophy.

I don't want to say that I didn't like any books at school, but I'd choosed read other kind of books. However, in recent months I wanted to read literature books that I liked in school, because reading sociology has completely boring me. That's why, a week ago I read "Demian" and I remembered how much I liked in the first time I read it. I can say that this book by Hermann Hesse is one of my favorite, and I confirmed it when I read it again. I remember reading "Demian" for the first time at age 12. I liked so much the book , I read it almost whole in a single day. I remember reading it on a starry night, imagining the details of the end of the book.

The book consists of the story of Sinclair, which maintains the same problem throughout his life: that is, the problem between the good and the evil. His friend Demian, a mysterious and very intelligent person, helps him to reflect on his life to finally overcome the moral and dogmatic distinction of good and evil. The book has a novelistic intention, but the above summarizes the philosophical plot. Precisely, what I like most about this book in its philosophical content, expressed in a life story.

My favorite appointment in the following: "Sinclair -he said vehemently- you also celebrate mysteries. I know you have dreams, that you don't tell me. I don't want to know them. But I tell you one thing, live them all, live those dreams, build altars about them! It is not perfect, but it is a path!” (p. 85).

Reading "Demian" again was a pleasure, so now I want to continue reading the literature I liked at school or other people's recommendations. I feel that now I understand books better and I am able to reflect deeply on them.
