My future job

Possible future as a researcher

A few years ago I started thinking about what kind of work I wanted for my future.

I am currently in fourth year of sociology, and I have thinked deep the path I want to follow. I could dedicate myself to the professional field, related to projects, interventions or public policies. I could also devote myself to research, related to research projects and the teaching in university.

Actually, I imagine in the future as a researcher, participating in various research projects. Fundamentally, because teaching is a dream for me. However, I am disgusted that research leaves a great sense of job instability. There is no fixed position, nor does it necessarily have to be a job outdoors. While teaching requires a job outdoors, teaching at the university is also very unstable. "Taxi professors" are known in this aspect, characterized by not being hired and wandering among many universities.

Despite the above the research entails positive things. In general, the possibilities for traveling are especially when one advances in the career as a researcher. I confess that I like to travel and would do so without complaints. Salaries are also quite high, although to achieve that, high levels of demand and stress are almost necessary.

Regarding specialization, the truth is that I would like to study the Master in Social Sciences of the University of Chile. The reason for this is that I would like to take advantage of access by "continuity of studies". In this way he could obtain the title of sociologist and master's degree at the same time. I have the minimum requirements to postulate, so I woulds not like to miss the opportunity. In addition doing graduate studies is another dream for me, because that option was always distant in my life. I didn't think I was capable, but now that the possibility is found, I want to try.
